Restoration Scholé is a member of Scholé Groups! We are a culturally diverse, multi-racial, classical Christian cooperative, building international community virtually through online classes while encouraging each other in faith, diligence, and excellence. Read more.

International Focus

In the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, our upper primary students (5th-8th grades) from around the globe will explore ancient and modern world literature together, examining how stories can draw us closer to God and make us better neighbors to those around us.

Restoration Scholé exists to nurture a Christ-centered, global-minded perspective in each other and in our children, while building one another up in community and pointing each other to Jesus, as we each pursue classical Christian education in our own families, and raise our children to be leaders and light.

Our current read, about the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. Timeless. Time change week got the kids like — The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. -John 1:5 #scholegroups #classicaleducation Last week, as I logged in to Zoom to teach class, I was marveling at the time zones spanning the globe, from California to Chicago to Charleston to Kenya to Romania -- and the wide variety of languages spoken by and studied by our kids. What a beautiful microcosm of the global Church body! I am so proud of our students. This year, they've tackled tough themes like propaganda, suffering, fairness, free will, choice, liberty, and tyranny, alongside overcoming enormous personal obstacles and trials. They've mourned with those who mourn, rejoiced with those who rejoiced, and have borne one another's burdens. They've sung along to modern Nigerian worship music, taken in the beauty -- and heartache -- of the Harlem Renaissance, copied out passages from hymns found in gulags, written letters to the underground/persecuted church, listened to the life story of a real-life Bible Smuggler, pondered the ordinary odes of Pablo Neruda, and created these art pieces inspired by the cover of Breaking Stalin's Nose. We're currently in a poetry intensive taking a whirlwind tour across countries and centuries, and then will begin a deep dive into Bronze and Sunflower, a Chinese middle grade novel set in rural China during the 1960s and 1970s. I love how the wisdom of the ancients and the classics tie in to modern day themes we deal with now. I love how seeing the reality of the underground church teaches us to fight for freedom. I love how we don't have to restrict ourselves to learning the history of just one civilization. I love that each piece of literature we pick up and study together can be used to draw us closer to Christ, and teach us how to be better neighbors. “He would have liked to sing her one of the songs that the village children sang, if only he could sing. He would have liked to ask her to come hunting for duck eggs in the reeds, if only he could express himself. In the end, he turned his riverbank into a stage and performed for her. He had an audience of one. And his audience always sat in the same way, with her chin resting on her knees.” Be light. In our modern literature class, we’re inviting kids to read outside their affluent American comfort zone. This book by Brother Andrew — who smuggled Bibles to the underground church behind the Iron Curtain — is a modern classic, and @_bethanyhoover and @oaxacaborn agree is absolutely crucial for the faith formation of our students. Have you read it? The author deftly crafts a tale of longing and belonging, tackling homesickness and a sense of place. It’s not a biography about Langston Hughes, but a novel about a young boy who discovers, after his mother’s death, that he’d been named after the poet. Although heartsick for his old Alabama home and his mother, Langston finds roots in Chicago and in the words of the African-American poets he discovers at the library. Utterly beautiful.
